UAAP Season 73 Teaser & Game Schedules

With the FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa coming to an epic end with Spain facing off against the Netherlands, Filipinos would soon be hooked to college basketball again as Season 73 of the UAAP will kick off this Saturday at the Araneta Colosseum.

De La Salle University who’s also celebrating their centennial, will the hosts for this season with the theme: “Where Heroes are Made.” This was inspired by Noynoy Aquino’s acceptance of the presidency and victory in the May elections.

From what I’ve gathered, basketball will not be highlighted during the opening ceremonies according to DLSU President Bro. Bernie Oca. Despite being the centerpiece of UAAP, other sports that showcase the talent of many “unsung heroes” will be put on the spot light instead.

Which is a good thing because Filipino athletes have been doing good in other sports. Francisco Bustamante has recently won the 9-ball billiards championship. Filipina boxer Ana Hulaton have also won the WBO Female Super Bantamweight title. While our national basketball teams have been, so and so.

So it’s just right that for once, we set our sights on other sports aside from basketball. Football would be an excellent alternative. Let’s not kid ourselves anymore, we all know how Filipinos are good football players and if given great support, we could someday make it into the World Cup which is why I wish the UAAP would televise the football matches too.

Going back to the UAAP, the Saturday opening program will be an exciting one as stars Gary V. and Ogie Alcasid will be performing.
