5 days of no blogging! This is becoming a habit for me.
Well not really, despite having lots of non-class hours these past few days especially when classes were suspended last Thursday because of the storm my time was eaten away by extra-curricular and social work.
Just this last Wednesday, I was a guest at [...]

It seems that the dry-spell here in the country is over. A tropical depression is growing near Bicol and tropical storm “Chedeng” continues to move steadily up north towards Taiwan. The good new is, dry-hot days are gone for now. Rains will be repleneshing rivers and lakes and hopefully the country’s power problems would not [...]

When driving a car, driving is your first responsibility. When using your wireless phone behind the wheel of a car, practice good common sense and remember the following tips:

1. Get to know your wireless phone and its features such as speed dial and redial. If available, these features help you to place your call without taking your attention off the road.

2. When available, use a hands free device. If possible, add an additional layer of convenience and safety to your wireless phone with one of the many hands free accessories available today.

3. Position your wireless phone within easy reach. Be able to access your wireless phone without removing your eyes from the road. If you get an incoming call at an inconvenient time, if possible, let your voice mail answer it for you.

A friend of mine commented in text message that it astounds him as Milenyo’s fury was unleashed full blast only last Thursday. After that, it was bright and sunny all over again, with a little rainshowers but hey, the storm is over. So how come power was still out?

I just replied to him that Milenyo was some mean and serious windbag. That’s why billboards and power poles have fallen down. The winds brought by Milenyo were just so strong, at 90mph in 10 minute averages, I’m not so much surprised that trees would be uprooted and power poles toppeled down. Still, reports say that even our weather guys are a bit puzzled by Milenyo’s behavior.

For those still in the dark, it all started last Tuesday night when I went to bed early because I was not feeling well. I had a slight fever back then and there were more than a dozen of times I tried to sneeze but failed. Sneezing is a sign that my body is fighting infection and if I do sneeze, it’s good because the foreign invaders -viruses, bacteria and other microbes are being ejected out of my body at more than 70 miles/hour (the average speed of a human sneeze). Unfortunately, since all my attempts to sneeze failed, it meant that my first-line of body defenses failed and that the microbes have gotten inside my system. It’s time for all out bio-war.

“WTF?! I thought there was a storm, a typhoon? It was what classes have been suspended for. Where’s the dark clouds, the howling winds and the pouding rain? I don’t believe it!” I smacked my palm against my now sweaty and oily forehead. “Just like an old woman, a very old woman…” I muttered about the weather as I got out bed for the second time but without the haste and determination I had earlier. I went on with most of my morning routine; breakfast, hot cup of tea, tai chi, and right now, my 6-hour plus session of being online. I asked my mother at what time did it stopped raining, she said it was around 7am that the rains stopped and the sky cleared up a bit. Even as I write….err type this post just after having lunch, there is sunshine, moderate cloud cover with moderate cool winds outside. There are occasional rainfalls but very very light, ambon lang, with strong gusts of wind but that is pretty much it.

I’m sure though that this break in the stormy weather will not last long. As it has been like for the past two days, well according to our experience here in upland Cavite, the heavy stormy weather bears down upon us from around 6 in the evening and straight on until the early hours of morning the next day. That as of now is my own weather forecast, the question of whether classes would resume tomorrow is now left in the hands of ‘people upstairs’ which in turn would depend on how fast Florita would leave our country.

When you do get to safety, usually a shed crowded with the others like you who are tired, haggard and dripping wet. Soon the adrenaline goes down and your bodies release the excessive heat to keep you warm but now that you’re in crowded space with little air circulation despite the strong howling winds out in the street, it could be unpleasant to your nose. Pawis at init ng katawan, iba’t-ibang deodorant, pabango at colonge pagsama-samahin mo at talagang tatakpan mo ilong mo.

Then you’ll remember a little fact you heard in ecology class that will definitely make things worse than it already is: when it is cold, the air tends to sink down to the ground and along with it the different scents and odors now emanating from the wet, steamy and irate crowd you’re in. So with your nose closed by your wet hanky or fingers, and breathing through your mouth, curses, damnations and foul words swirl through your mind creating a storm of its own. “Lecheng ulan! Bad trip talaga oh!”

Just this morning when I went to school, it was raining quite heavily and winds blowing strongly, the usual wet and rainy wheather we get during this times of the year. Wala pang bagyo nyan ha. The small, light, compact, fragile and expensive designer umbrellas that come in all the various shades of the colors of the rainbow dot the streets like flowers putting on their summer blooms. Until reality bites hard with a strong gust of wind twisting, turning and flipping those umbrellas inside out. Bye-bye cool weekend attire, say hello to wet, groggy and muddy look. Sayang ang damit, sayang ang make-up, sira ang ayos ng buhok. Bad trip!

Mutters, curses and screams you’d hear from those hapless folks especially students and schoolmates of mine whom had been failed by those poorly designed umbrellas. So much for compactness, so much for the designer signature, so much for the hefty pricetag, and so much for the carefully chosen weekend get-up. Alam naman kasing malakas ang hangin at ulan, bakit yung mga ganoong klaseng payong pa ang dinala?
