It’s the human piggyback race we held as part of the team-building exercises of the 2008 Self-Awareness Seminar & Advanced Leadership Training for the SERVE Volunteers of DLSUD.

It was a fun-filled and learning three days wherein the student-volunteers were molded into a single body of Lasallian volunteers. Check out the rest of the photos on Flickr.

Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt. I know I’ve been absent the past few weekends but hey, it’s always nice to be joining again.

This weekend’s theme is all about ‘flags‘. Since June is the month the Philippines celebrates its day of Independence Day, the National Flag and historical flags like those used during the Revolution of 1896 are displayed all over the country.

However, my contribution is a photo taken not this June but last April during our family summer trip to the beaches of Matabungkay, Batangas.

Around the shores were cottages fixed to bamboo rafts. A common attraction around those beaches. Well, most of them had flags, Philippine flags, flying over their roofs. And these were being flown all-year round so their owners are celebrating Independence day 365 days of the year.

Okay, I know there are only two flags in the photo I shared, but it’s more than one so there, flags!

Happy PhotoHunting everyone!

Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt has arrived! This week’s theme carries with it a great significance for Pinoy book lovers because of the recent Book Blockade of 2009, and so obviously, it’s all about books!

Here’s my share, or rather stack of books for this week’s PhotoHunt:

My initial stack of books for this year's reading list.

I do confess though, that I have not yet finished any of the books in that stack which I bought last January. The good start I had with The Federalist Papers was cut short by quite a controversial book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail by authors Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln. Nonetheless, I’d have more reason to return to the The Federalist Papers now that I’m switching majors this coming June. More on all of that in a later post.

While the recent suspension of the Bureau of Customs’ taxation of imported books is a cause for celebrations, the Great Book Blockade of 2009 is just a reminder of how books are still valuable and indispensable commodities in our times. A direct impact on myself is that I’ve decided to really revive my reading habit with the intent of finishing at least 3 books of varied topics/subjects every quarter of the year. In fact, a new blog of mine is nearing launch that’s designed to help me stay on top of my reading list and to nurture the bookworm that is me. So watch out for that one!

In the meantime, enjoy the books, reading and the weekend everyone!

Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt. And this week’s theme is all about “plastic“.

A common-place substance that has become one of the most enduring symbols of modern human civilization. The word derives from the Greek word “plastikos” meaning fit for molding, and “plastos” meaning molded. The first human-made plastic was invented by Alexander Parkes in 1862 and he called this plastic Parkesine. There are a multitude of other plastic variants that we know of today. (source)

One of which was used to create my beloved chess set, which I would be using for this week’s PhotoHunt.

My favorite set of chess pieces

I first came to use this particular set of chess back in high school when I tried out for the chess varsity team. The look, feel and weight of the pieces really gave a more serious respect and love for the game. Though wood-carved chess pieces are more common here in the Philippines, serious chess players, professionals and rated players have come to regard this particular set of heavy plastic-molded chess set a standard.

So glad I am able to join PhotoHunt again this weekend. I’ve missed so much already. It’s also good news that the PhotoHunt blog is up and running again so this week’s PhotoHunt would be another great one.

This week’s theme is “Painted“. For my part, I’m sharing a photo I’ve taken with my Sony Ericsson K800i cyber-shot phone of Pilipino artists doing street painting to voice out their support for the renewal of Philippine society and to decry the Arroyo administration’s efforts in suppressing the truth about its corrupt, illegal and anti-people deeds and practices.

This was done during the “Truth Festival” held at the Raja Sulayman Park in the City of Manila where hundreds of artists, muscians, students, teachers, civil society groups gathered for a night of art, music, dance, and cultural celebration showcasing the Filipino people’s desire for truth and accountability from the corrupt Arroyo government and justice for all their evil deeds.

It was the height of the NBN-ZTE corruption scandal involving the President’s husband and the former Chair of Commission on Elections. At the center of all this, was the star-witness Jun Lozada who braved the odds and evil machinery of the Arroyo government to silence him and prevent the truth from being exposed to the Filipino people.

To the present day, Arroyo’s government and allies continue to harass and oppress Jun Lozada fearing that the truth he carries would be one of key reasons for their downfall.

You can view more photos of the colorful event here at my Flickr page.

Happy PhotoHunting to everyone!
