Atomic Tom performs “Take Me Out” in New York Subway - No instruments, just iPhone 4

With the advent of New Media, people have found new ways to generating buzz and attention towards the things that they do or the cause they support. One common tactic is a flash mobilization of people in public places where there’s lots of people, like malls, parks even schools.

Some are random and the result of everyone simply showing up at the designated place and time then doing what they have to do. The effect is dramatic as the unsuspecting public cum audience are surprised and awed by the sudden turn of events. However, some are not totally random or spontaneous. Some have been planned days or even weeks ahead of time.

A band in New York did just that when they staged a lightning live performance in a subway train. Atomic Tom performed “Take Me Out” using no conventional musical instruments carried by a rock band, but instead each member had an iPhone 4 loaded with a special app that simulated the instrument they regularly played. Check out the video below:

The video has gone viral on the internet. Giving the band good exposure and interest to promote their upcoming gigs and their music. Another demonstration of how iconic the iPhone has become.

I wonder if another band or group would answer back, but using Android-powered phones instead. Now that would be awesome!

It may have scored higher points on being eco-friendly if it had rechargeable batteries. Hopefully it will come it different colors with a shiny finish so that it would appeal to more stylish users and look good when coupled to the sexy iPod. Though this may cause some trouble because the users would now become walking music players and annoy others around especially in elevators or buses.

It sells for $129.95 and gives you the chance to look like the merman from the movie Hellboy.

The Beatles entire catalog in an Apple

Okay, I’m still drooling over the recently released digitally re-mastered The Beatles’ catalogue on CD last September yet here I am again about to drool some more because come December 7 of this year, the very same catalog would be released in an Apple-shaped USB drive that sells for a jaw-dropping $279.99!

I shit you not, the apple-shaped device has been produced by Apple Corp in partnership with EMI and they’re making only 30,000 units of this 16GB device. Besides the entire Beatles’ catalog, it also contains all of the re-mastered CDs’ digital artwork, some mini-documentary films about the studio albums, replicated original UK album art, rare photos and expanded liner notes. The audio would be in the following formats FLAC 44.1 Khz 24 bit and MP3 320 Kbps.

This would be the perfect Christmas gift to any Bealtes fan, just like myself. (Makes parinig to girlfriend and my parents) So now I’m really tempted to skip enrolling for this 2nd semester and just blow my money on this $280 apple and give the Beatles fan in me a musical orgasm of epic proportions.
