Multiply.com has recently rolled out its “Post via MMS” service to Philippine users.
It is powered by ABS-CBN Interactive and at the moment, is limited to only SMART and SUN subscribers. They said that they’re working hard to partner with other local telcos, Globe namely.

To blog & post photos to Multiply via MMS, simply follow these steps:

The first step is to activate your phone by entering your phone number on Multiply’s Post Via Mobile setup page.

Once your phone is activated, go back to the same setup page above, and now you can set the default access for posts sent by your phone. Check here for more info on the different access settings you can choose.

Now you can post photos or blogs on your Multiply site simply by sending a message to 2295.

To post a photo, simply select the photo(s) on your phone that you want to post, then choose Options and then Send via MMS. If you want the photo posted as an album on Multiply, add PHOTO as the first word of your subject. If you want the photo posted as a blog on Multiply, add BLOG as the first word of the subject. Any other text you add to the subject will be used as the title of the post. Any text you include in the body with the photo will be used as a caption.

To post a blog without a photo, just type the text you want posted and send. It is not necessary to include a key word in your subject.

Standard MMS rates or network charges will be applied. I can’t try out the service yet because I’m a Globe subscriber, but I’m sure my friends who belong to the other network would find this service quite useful.

Do check out my Multiply site and you’re welcome to add me as a contact.

A couple of days ago, my aunt once more asked me to help configure her Nokia N95′s WAP/MMS/Streaming settings for Globe.

Like clock work, I called Globe’s Customer Service, gave them the handset unit, my aunt’s mobile number and requested that they send the settings via SMS message which was the easiest way. The other options would be to ask for the settings one-by-one and configure the phone manually, which is very troublesome when done over the phone. The least viable option would be to personally take the phone to a Globe Business Center and have their agents configure it there.

We expected to receive the settings immediately after the call ended, as this is what happened before when we asked for the settings of our earlier phones. Oddly enough, the settings never arrived via SMS, the obligatory 24-48 hours of waiting passed and still no settings have been received.

On the third day of waiting, I decided to call Customer Services again. But the Christmas season may have already caused high traffic on Globe’s networks as my call was dropped three times.

Growing frustrated, but decided not to let loose on the hapless CS agent, I just gave them my email address and requested that they send the settings there instead, so that I could configure the phone manually.

WAP Settings
1. Go to Menu>Tools>Settings>Connection>Access points>Options>New Access point>Use default setting. Enter details for the following parameters.

Connection name: myGlobe CONNECT

Data Bearer: Pocket data

Access point name: www.globe.com.ph

User name: <none>

Prompt password: No

Password: <none>

Authentication: Normal

Homepage: http://www.globe.com.ph/globe.asp

Press Options then select Advance settings. Enter details for the following parameters:

Network type: Ipv4

Proxy serv. address: 203.177.42.214

Proxy Port number: 8080

2. Go back to the main menu, select Web, press Options then Settings. Choose myGlobe CONNECT as the default access point.

MMS Settings
1. Go to Menu>Messaging>Options>Settings>Multimedia message>Access point in use>Options>New access point>Use default settings. Enter details for the following parameters

Connection name: myGlobe MMS

Data Bearer: GPRS

Access point name: mms.globe.com.ph

User name: <none>

Prompt password: No

Password: <none>

Authentication: Normal

Homepage: http://192.40.100.22:10021/mmsc

Press Option then select Advance settings. Enter details for the following parameters:

Proxy serv. address: 203.177.042.214

Proxy Port Number: 8080

Stream Settings
2. Go to Menu>Tools>Settings>Connection>Access points>Options>New Access point>Use default setting. Enter details for the following parameters.

Connection name: myGlobe stream

Data Bearer: Packet data

Access point name: real.globe.com.ph

User name: <none>

Prompt password: No

Password: <none>

Authentication: Normal

Press Options then select Advance settings. Enter details for the following parameters:

Network type: Ipv4

Proxy serv. address: None

Proxy Port number: None

3. Go back to the main menu, Find Real Player Application, press Options then Settings. Choose myGlobe Stream as the default access point.

After tinkering around with the Nokia N95, I finally got it working, this is confirmed by sending a test MMS message to my aunt’s number. I even had the spare time to configure the phone to connect to my home Wi-Fi network, so that my aunt could do some web surfing is she so pleases.

I think the same settings would for the Nokia N9x series because the PDF file Globe sent me indicated that it’s the same settings for the Nokia N91.

For others who would like to have their WAP/MMS/Streaming settings configured, simply call Globe’s Customer Service Number 211, and if you can do it manually, simply give them your email address for them to send the configuration settings in PDF format.

We all know of Globe Telecom’s new 3G/GPRS/HSDPA rates and how it received warm welcomes from users. It’s now similar to what rival Smart is offering but their version is slightly different. I immediately switched over to their new time-based charging scheme last Monday, April 10 by texting “time” to 1111. Below is the exact SMS confirmation message I received soon after:

U have successfully shifted to TIME Browsing w/ the ff Terms & Conditions:
1. U will be charged P5 for every 15mins of mobile internet cnection regardless of the no./type of sites visitd (ex. myGlobe/Yahoo..)
2. Succeeding connections will be chargd P5 for 15mins;
3. No refund will be made if disconcted before the 15 mins are up
4. This is only applicable to browsing w/in the Phil.

A bit greedy and harsh if I may say but it’s way better than their greedier per KB charging. However, problems soon appeared and are still causing me frustration and disappointment with Globe Telecom.

Ever since I switched over to their new time-based charging scheme, I can no longer send and receive MMS messages. Even browsing on wap sites using my SE K800i became very slow and often times intermittent.

Immediately, last Tuesday, I called up Globe’ infamous Customer Help hotline and reported my problem. A report was made by the agent that took my call and I was told to wait for their customary 24-hour turn-around period and God-willing, I would be able to send and receive MMS messages again.

Unfortunately, I was still not able to. So again I called up Customer Service to follow up on my case. The agent told me that the system deactivated my MMS service because my balance once reached below Php50, which is required to send and receive MMS messsages. Okay…

I told them that at that time, my balance was somewhere above Php400 and that even though my balance went down below Php50, I never had this kind of problem. Perhaps it’s because I switched to the new time-based charging rates and that this is a bug in their network.

A bug that persisted

It was day two of my ordeal and after waiting for another 24 hours for their technical team to do their <del datetime="2008-04-10T14:37:06+00:00">blunder</del> magic, I was still unable to send and receive MMS messages.

Wednesday was the 3rd day and so I made another phone call, again was given the same old routine of waiting for another 24 hours for the remedy to work because as far as they are concerned, their technicians have “manually” activated my MMS service and everything was OK.

Right, as what I’ve told the CSR, “Would I be calling customer service if the problem has been already fixed?” This controlled outburst was returned with their customary apologies for the inconvenience as a result of their crappy system, network and employees.

A female CSR lied to me

Earlier this afternoon, Thursday, at around 5:30pm I made my 4th call because I’m still having the same problem. The same script was played out to me; “Sir, as of today OK na po ang inyong MMS sa aming system.”

My response: “Tatawag ba ako sa inyo kung may problema pa ako? This is the 4th day I’m having this problem and this is the 4th call and still, nothing positive has happened. I still could not send nor receive MMS messages.”

I expected the customary apologies from her but what she told me next really struck a nerve. She asked me for my location, “Silang, Cavite” I told her. She put me on hold for 2 minutes while she “checked” something in their system. When she returned, she told me that since their system is saying that my MMS service is “activated” everything is OK. My problem may be caused by an “ongoing system enhancement in Tagaytay City” and I should wait for another 24 hours for this to be totally resolved.

“System enhancement” my ass!

After that conversation with that female Globe CSR, I re-dialed the customer service number and when a new CSR picked up my call, a male agent this time around, I asked if there was an “ongoing system enhancement in Tagaytay City” at that very moment.

He told me that there was none. Being puzzled, he asked me why I asked. I told him, “that’s what your fellow agent told me a while ago when I followed up my MMS problems.” After re-telling my story for the 5th time and after the guy seeing the record of my account, he once more offered his apologies for this inconvenience, he would file another report to their technical support team and the whole cycle just repeated itself, adding much more to my frustrations and aggravations.

To everyone at Globe, and I mean everyone, I understand that these things happen. But for the love of God and the welfare of your PAYING customers, do your jobs right and with decency.

It’s understandable that it could get difficult if you CSR agents run out of things to say when your protocols or scripts do not cover every query or response from us customers, but to lie to us?! Nakakahiya, La Salle alumni pa naman ang presidente ng kumpanya nyo.
