Last night I saw something a bit exciting in my inbox. It was an update from the Google AdSense Team announcing that AdSense publishers can now earn more by referring users to sign-up for Google Apps, those nifty free web services like Gmail for your own domain, Docs and Spreadsheet, Calendar etc. via the Google [...]

Yes, after full seven days of being away from blogging I’m back! Woot! This post would be short though and a quick one. I should be in bed right this moment so that I could get back some badly needed sleep and rest (it’s 1:25am as I write this) because the past week of school [...]

Hooray! Gmail is now open for public sign-up to internet users here in the Philippines. I just found out about this a while as I was about to check my original Gmail account. I noticed a new layout in the home page and suspicions that something new is in offer and indeed it is a [...]

In all honesty, I became worried, scared even because 1) I am among the many bloggers out there who uses the AdSense Beautifier plugin and 2) I am also among those who customized the images that the plugin uses. These two factros alone made me a prime candidate for being banned from using AdSense, which would be a real nightmare because I’m still waiting to hit the $100-mark and recieve my very first AdSense check.

So I nearly stayed up all night and worked to change the images the AdSense Beautifier plugin is using for my site. Guided by probloggers Abe and Darren, I first decided to change the images into something that are not closely related to technology, computers, gadgets and health which are the topics I mainly blog about.

What questions would you ask him?

Will Google open its own social bookmarking site?
When will Gmail be open for public sign-up?

What gripes/complaints would you raise?

How come Gmail doesn’t have smilies??? The same goes to Gtalk.

What suggestions would you give?

Make AdSense ‘understand’ content, particularly blog posts, written in Filipino or Tagalog better so that Public Service ads wouldn’t be displayed all the time.

Is it just me or have the gods of the blogosphere cursed me?! I already sent an email to Ploghost.com’s support team and the waiting game starts again. I just hope this gets resolved as soon as possible as I am now a living testament to how dreadful, costly and frustrating it could be once your email gets screwed up. You could still get in touch with me via my old Gmail address at: jhaykage (at) gmail (dot) com.

That’s not all folks…

As if the screwed up email wasn’t enough, I also discovered that the nifty AJAX-powered live search for my blog is also acting up.

And here is where my concern grows bigger. Already, we are suffering from those irritating SPAM or unsolicited SMS messages (commercial or otherwise, as long as it is unsolicited or unwanted, it is spam) in our mobile phones today. We are next to powerless, without enough credits(extra load) to tell the network to stop sending us those friggin’ spam SMS messages and now comes this automatic though non-intrusive yet out of our control message/content delivery system? What gives?!

You get into a shop, (not Starbucks or any other A-class place), tell the person in charge you just want to use a pc for internet service because of number 8 above or you don’t have a pc at home. You’re given the unit number, you go look for it and OFMG! It’s right in the middle of two users playing online games. You take your chances, log in to your accounts, your blog included and as you type along (you’re quite in a hurry because the rate’s quite high) and every now and then you would feel and notice that the users flanking you take occassional peeks at your monitor screen and even spends a few seconds to actually read what you’re working on. It’s enough to make you borrow some of Garci’s infamous lines, “right to privacy!”

But I don’t want to do that, I want the best of both worlds. I want to keep using Gmail with all of its cool features and mindblowing storage space (over 2 GB and still counting!) while using my new jhay [at] jrocas [dot] com [dot] ph address all at the same time. This has been made possible thanks to a feature called mail forwarding and the ability of Gmail to handle all your other e-mail addresses as different accounts.

How? Again, logging in to my .com.ph + domain’s Cpanel, I can configure my native e-mail account (jhay at jrocas dot com dot ph) to forward all the e-mails it recieves to my Gmail account (jhaykage at gmail dot com). I now log in to my Gmail and proceed to creat a new account or “Send mail as:” profile which means you can use Gmail to send from your other email addresses.
