You’ve probably heard of it by now, Nokia orders a recall of some 46 Million batteries for its mobile phones. Is it a cyclical phenomena? The same thing happened to Apple with its defective batteries for the MacBook, Sony too had the same problem with their laptop PC batteries and both incidents have been costly [...]

One of the top reasons I’m thankful and proud that I bought the Sony Ericsson K800i phone is it’s camera. At 3.2 megapixels powered by Sony’s renowned Cyber-shot technology, the K800i makes a good entry-level digital camera that you could take any where and will give you good quality close-range photos. I took it with [...]

Long before their machine would reach its first year, they are already on the prowl or waiting list for new upcoming parts and components. When they do finally get the new cutting-edge stuff, they end up with a growing pile of old but ’still-perfectly-working-and-would-probably-last-for-a-year-or-more’ component or peripherals. Some would breathe new life into these parts by putting them together to build a secondary machine, to serve as a back-up but really just adds up to your bragging rights, and not to mention the painful increase in your month’s power bill. Practicality and common sense, nay, entrepreneurial sense kicks in and you decide to simply sell these parts for a decent price or much better, to the wishes of the highest bidder.

I was so immersed in my own ‘little world’ that my aunt once thought that I had lost my sanity since I was frequently talking to my self while her son, my cousin a year older than me, was all quite playing with his GameBoy (the original model). Years later we would grow up and go to school together, to our family, and my aunt’s amazement, I, who spent my childhood days playing with plastic and wooden blocks and talking to my self in a corner did better and excelled over my cousin who spent his growing up years honing his cut-throat skill of button mashing and a mastery of the GameBoy and other electronic devices like the VHS player and the SEGA console. Don’t forget though that I was the weird one. ;)

Well, that’s in the United Kingdom, I wonder what are the figures are here in the Philippines? Then again more questions pop in my mind like, “How many Filipino kids have access to computers?” “How young are those Filipino kids?” “What do they do with the computer or have they experienced the internet already?” “Do they use Windows or Mac? Have they ever seen nor used Linux before?” “Do they become smarter or perform better than others?” These are just some questions racing in my mind regarding the subject of children and computers.

Still, despite the harsh economic realities, you’d still find a great number of young Filipinos, students especially, running around with the latest gadget technology can offer. The most visible representation would be the mobile phone; Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorolla are just among the top brands whose latest models graze the hands, necks, bags and belt pouches of today’s students and young professionals. Add to this, the mp3 players from Creative, Sony and the much coveted iPod accompanying the newest models of mobile phones owned by the Filipino students today, one could easily assume that things are not so bad here in the Philippines. Or the Philippines is truly modernizing into the future or something else similar.

I broke his iPod Nano with my butt. I forogt that the pencil-thin sexy gagdet was in my back pocket when I decided to shoot some hoops with its owner, my cousin Benjie for an afternoon fun. The routine game turned into a nightmare when I lost balance during a rebound and fell to the ground butt ergo, iPod nano first. I froze when I heard this crack and felt something on my back pocket. Holy Sh*t!! Naupuan ko ang iPod ni insan!!! I screamed in my mind that is now refusing to believe so. It felt like landing on two packs of Skyflakes crackers that..well...cracked. I got back up on my feet with the help of my cousin and while he was concerned about my well-being, I was dead worried about his iPod and my dear life. I braved up, and reached for the device in my backpocket, held it in my two hands and nearly fainted after seeing an unerving crack running across the iPod's screen that is now lifeless and blank. "Chotto matte...Nani?!" My cousin Benjie suddenly lost his knowledge of the English and Filipino language and started to be histerical in Japanese. All I understood was, "What the hell happened?!! How?! Why?! Oh you're so dead!!!"
