There would be a forum on “The Filipino Blogosphere: Political Expression, Communication, and Participation” on February 26 (Sat), 10:00 AM at the Case Room, G/F National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG), University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, where Ms Mary Grace P. Mirandilla-Santos will be presenting the results of her study* on A-List Filipino political bloggers and their readers: motivation, political attitude and modes of political participation.

There will also be a discussion on related topics, such as blogging and the Filipino identity, political expression and communication, and journalism. Other speakers include Dr. Erwin Alampay, Prof. Danilo Arao, Ms. Stephanie Rabia, and Mr. Juned Sunido.

Again this open to the public so for those interested to attend you can get in touch with Ms Mirandilla-Santos via her email: mg[dot]mirandilla[at]gmail[dot]com

I won’t be able to attend because of a theater rehearsal. No kidding. Anyways, for those who would be attending, have a fun and productive forum.

Wow! This is going to be one big event. After the 1st E-heads reunion concert was cut-short by Ely Buendia’s heart condition, fans cannot help but ask for a part two or continuation of the first concert.

Finally, after months of having to settle with rumors, it will now be a reality. Bloggers have already posted about this, all pointing to a Philstar.com posting, the second part of the Eraserheads Reunion concert has been confirmed. Dubbed “The Final Set” the concert is slated for March 7, 2009.

No venue has been announced yet, so we’re just have to wait around for their next official announcement.

With the E-heads fever being spread by that hit McDonald’s commercial featuring their ultimate hit, “Ang Huling El Bimbo”, this second reunion concert would certainly be another big event.

I hope I could score some tickets!

Anyways, just received an email that Hitachi is running a contest of sorts which will give away prizes like an Apple iPhone, a Nintendo Wii, iSmart digital photo frames and of course Hitachi hard drives.

Each month, 1 Apple iPhone, 1 Nintendo Wii, 3 iSmart Photo frames and 5 “Hard Drive by Hitachi” external hard drives. To stand a chance of winning any of these prices, visit this Hitachi website and answer two simple questions. Submit your details and you’re now eligible to win!

Another way to qualify is to buy any Hitachi hard drive from December 1, 2008 to January 31, 2009. We all have a year to join and have the chance to win any of those cool prices.

This coming Thursday, November 27, 2007, Asia Pacific College will be hosting BitDefender’s anti-piracy campaign entitled “Bit Piracy at its own game!” The said seminar will also feature the official launching of the 2009 version of BitDefender antivirus software.

It’s a seminar for students that aims to educate them about the pitfalls of pirated security software. True that there are many risks in using pirated security software the greatest of which is being prosecuted under the law because hey, it is a crime.

However, what really keeps Filipinos, especially students, from using licensed software is the price. I recall trying to purchase a licensed copy of PC-Cillin back in 2004 but was stopped dead on my tracks because the price tag would just burn holes in all of my pockets! This is also the reason why I never really tried BitDefender before even though it was so easy to get a pirated copy of it. It’s a good thing free security software had become reliable by then so it became a great alternative.

But these security software like Avast and the one I’m currently using AVG Free edition, lacked some features that ‘big brands’ had and those features come at quite a high price. That’s one of the main reason that despite the availability of free alternatives, pirated security software are still rampant.

BitDefender’s strategy to combat piracy is to offer its security software at a much affordable price to students. That’s why this coming Thursday, at the ‘BIT Piracy at its own game!’ seminar, BitDefender is going to offer its security software for only Php270.00. It’s a good bargain indeed because it currently sells for $59.95 or roughly Php2800 and one could only wish that the other vendors would do the same.

According to BitDefenders’ local partners for this campaign, other schools like De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, UST College of Engineering, and Manila Central University have signed up to host the same seminar. It would be good if De La Salle University – Dasmariñas would host the seminar as well.

This is a good effort in fighting piracy in the country. My best wishes to BitDefender and again, I wish that the other vendors would follow suit and offer special discounted prices to us students.

As you may have noticed from the banner on top of every post in this blog, this weekend would be a glorious one for all techies and gadget enthusiasts as Consumer Electronics Live! 2008 would be showcasing an exhibit of the latest offerings from the top tech brands in the Philippines.

The event would go on for 3 days from Friday to Sunday (Oct. 24 – 26, 2008) and opens from 10am to 8PM at the SMX Convention Center beside SM Mall of Asia.

According to Yuga, here’s what we could expect in this event:

Sony VAIO Launch and New Alpha Cameras

Canon up to 40% off on selected items

My Screen up to 70% off on selected items

HP – get a free one month subscription of Sun Cellular Broadband for every purchase of HP Laptop or

Personal Computer

PS
Yuga is giving away free passes to 10 bloggers who would blog about the CEL 2008 event. I already registered at the CEL website, though I haven’t heard from them yet, plus there’s a Php50.00 registration fee so winning those free passes would be awesome!
