Alas, the long wait is over! I’ve first read about Amazon’s e-book reader Kindle going international via this story from Wired’s Gadget Lab blog:

Although Amazon’s Kindle e-reader has become the first major hit in its category — and the best-selling product in Amazon’s entire store this year — it does have its drawbacks. One of the biggest is that its wireless connection to the Kindle store works only in the U.S.

That changes on October 19, when Amazon begins shipping a new version of the Kindle that can be used to purchase and download books in over 100 countries. The new version, with the snappy name of “Kindle with US and International Wireless,” will sell for $280 and can be pre-ordered now.

What really got me excited is when Inquirer.net reported that the Philippines would be one of the 100 countries where the Kindle 2, its new version, would be available for delivery.

Book lovers who’d like to go digital rejoice! I’ve been wanting to get a Kindle but was frustrated when it was initially made available only in the US. Now, on October 19, things would change.

I just wonder which local telco would carry the Kindle and much would it cost to access Amazon’s Kindle book store via local networks.

Now that the Kindle is coming to the Philippines in time for Christmas, I’m torn between getting myself a new mobile phone or getting a Kindle.

What do you guys think? Would you also get a Kindle too?
