Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt. I know I’ve been absent the past few weekends but hey, it’s always nice to be joining again.

This weekend’s theme is all about ‘flags‘. Since June is the month the Philippines celebrates its day of Independence Day, the National Flag and historical flags like those used during the Revolution of 1896 are displayed all over the country.

However, my contribution is a photo taken not this June but last April during our family summer trip to the beaches of Matabungkay, Batangas.

Around the shores were cottages fixed to bamboo rafts. A common attraction around those beaches. Well, most of them had flags, Philippine flags, flying over their roofs. And these were being flown all-year round so their owners are celebrating Independence day 365 days of the year.

Okay, I know there are only two flags in the photo I shared, but it’s more than one so there, flags!

Happy PhotoHunting everyone!

Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt has arrived! This week’s theme carries with it a great significance for Pinoy book lovers because of the recent Book Blockade of 2009, and so obviously, it’s all about books!

Here’s my share, or rather stack of books for this week’s PhotoHunt:

My initial stack of books for this year's reading list.

I do confess though, that I have not yet finished any of the books in that stack which I bought last January. The good start I had with The Federalist Papers was cut short by quite a controversial book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail by authors Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln. Nonetheless, I’d have more reason to return to the The Federalist Papers now that I’m switching majors this coming June. More on all of that in a later post.

While the recent suspension of the Bureau of Customs’ taxation of imported books is a cause for celebrations, the Great Book Blockade of 2009 is just a reminder of how books are still valuable and indispensable commodities in our times. A direct impact on myself is that I’ve decided to really revive my reading habit with the intent of finishing at least 3 books of varied topics/subjects every quarter of the year. In fact, a new blog of mine is nearing launch that’s designed to help me stay on top of my reading list and to nurture the bookworm that is me. So watch out for that one!

In the meantime, enjoy the books, reading and the weekend everyone!

Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt. And this week’s theme is all about “plastic“.

A common-place substance that has become one of the most enduring symbols of modern human civilization. The word derives from the Greek word “plastikos” meaning fit for molding, and “plastos” meaning molded. The first human-made plastic was invented by Alexander Parkes in 1862 and he called this plastic Parkesine. There are a multitude of other plastic variants that we know of today. (source)

One of which was used to create my beloved chess set, which I would be using for this week’s PhotoHunt.

My favorite set of chess pieces

I first came to use this particular set of chess back in high school when I tried out for the chess varsity team. The look, feel and weight of the pieces really gave a more serious respect and love for the game. Though wood-carved chess pieces are more common here in the Philippines, serious chess players, professionals and rated players have come to regard this particular set of heavy plastic-molded chess set a standard.

Wohoo! Another weekend, another round of PhotoHunt. This week’s theme is quite interesting, as every theme is, “Protect(ion)“.

For my share, it’s protection that the boy has from wearing the life vest even though he remained on the shallow shores of Matabungkay beach in Batangas, Philippines.

This was taken last Saturday during our family beach vacation. It has been a long while since we last took one as a whole family and every time is special, enjoyable and simply memorable.

It’s even more memorable because I am now able to take photos of it and more thanks to my Nikon D40. Check out the whole set on my Flickr. I’ll back later on to talk more about that trip to the beach and to go visit other blogs who’s joined this week’s PhotoHunt.

A great weekend to all!

By the time you read this, I’ll be hitting the beaches of Batangas with my family and friends to beat the summer heat and have fun. It would be a perfect opportunity to practice some beach photography.

Speaking of photography, today is another Saturday hence another round of PhotoHunt. This week’s theme is about the color “Violet“.

This is a shot of the CAFFMACO contingent in the Fiesta Street Dance last February 3, 2009. CAFFMACO is a local cooperative of farmers in Cavite who join the annual street dance to pay homage to the Nuestra Señora dela Candelaria, the patroness of Silang, Cavite on her feast day.

For this year, CAFFMACO decided to carry the symbol of their livelihoods as the main theme of their costume, hence the chicken head-dresses and in this photo cows with purple markings!

Isn’t that cute? They even had a giant pig mascot which was also awesome! Check out the whole photo set here, I’ll look forward to visiting the other posts who have joined this week’s PhotoHunt when I come back from the beach! happy weekend everyone!
