Porn Detection Stick by Paraben

Porn Detection StickSpecialized computer forensic software maker Paraben has come out with a clever device to detect adult material in a computer, the aptly named Paraben Porn Detection Stick.

It’s a USB device with a built-in software that when run, scans the hard drive to look for pornographic content. It employs various techniques to distinguish porn from non-porn material in your computer.

  • Image Cleanup – within virtual memory, the software cleans up the image for optimum analysis.
  • Skin Detection – this identifies skin tones and texture within the image.
  • Background Elimination – this eliminates background objects from foreground objects so background objects don’t skew the results.
  • Edge Detection – identifies the edges of objects.
  • Body Part Separation – separates body parts into separate masses.
  • Negative Curvature Rejection – eliminates objects with negative curves.
  • Elimination – eliminates other objects.
  • Face Detection – identifies faces within the image.
  • Body Part Layout Decision – maps body part distribution and image layout.
  • Decision – classifies image based on data.

It claims to have a 99% detection rate though it would be great if a real-life test results would be posted by someone out there who has the device. Parents, IT administrators and even school administrators would find this device a heaven-sent!

One great concern would be about privacy rights as this would be touched with the use of this device, you may be your parents’ child, but once you reach the legal age in your country, you enjoy the full rights to privacy and it certainly covers your computer or laptop. So when someone tries to use this on your computer, it wouldn’t be rude to ask for a valid warrant first before.

Another great use for this device would be to look for that particular porn you’ve forgotten where it was hidden or buried in your hard drive away from your kids, partner or parents. Right, Ade?
