I bet Itachi let Sasuke kill him, Itachi can't be that weak to get killed by a loser like sasuke(no ofense). Even though he was sick and his sharingon was weakening, he could beat sasuke any day, actually anybody could beat sasuke. I bet sasuke still is alive anyways, He must've just used the cloned himself like he did vs. kakashi's team. Itachi gave him sasuke his mangekyo while itachi got his fair and square.The author should make him come back or i'm not watching or reading naruto anymore.

You are actually wrong about Uchiha Itachi..well its a long story and you should check it out in onemanga.com. Uchiha was faithful brother to Sasuke even tho it didnt seem like he was, Itachi had a painful decisions…

and when u said when Itachi was close on obtaining Sasuke's eyes u are wrong, when Sasuke was little Itachi was a good brother and when Sasuke always interupts Itachi's on his Acadamey h/w Itachi would always tap Sasuke's forehead, to Itachi it was something that they bonded together as good brothers. it seems confusing but read the chapters in onemanga.com about it, thats why Itachi tapped Sasuke's head before he collapse becuz he always do that to Sasuke before he left Konoha, it was the last thing Itachi wanted to do before he died. made me cry when Uchiha Midara told the whole trueth about Itachi. onemanga.com 402-403 is all about Sasuke and Itachi.
