As I’ve just discovered for my self, there is a way for Star Trek fans to get a taste of their LCARS dose right on their Windows machine by using the LCARS x32 UI.
For the non-Star Trek fans, LCARS stands for Library Computer Access/Retrieval System which is a fictional computer operating system depicted in the Star Trek TV series and movies.
However, the experience is still somehow limited because of the desktop or laptop’s physical keyboard while on the other hand the LCARS was manipulated using touchscreen technology.
This could now be fixed by using dual-screen laptops. The latest of this unique line is the Acer Iconia-484G64ns.
It’s a 14-inch dual-screen multi-touch laptop which is already available here in the Philippines. Check out the cool specs on this piece of hardware:
Intel Core i5-480M @ 2.66GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1066MHz RAM
14? display @ 1366×768 pixel
Intel HD Graphics
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
3000mAh 4-cell Li-ion battery
2 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port
1 HDMI port
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Okay I confess that I’m not a Star Trek fan, but the LCARS UI was the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this on Yugatech.
Don’t know if the LCARS x32 will work on the (takes deep breath) Acer Iconia-484G64ns though. But I’m sure somewhere out there, someone could. It would be one cool machine to look at and something that could move Star Trek fans to tears.
Disclosure: I am a Star Wars fan. 😀
