Who is the Father of Philippine Chemistry?

Ever since I blogged about Filipino Chemists, the next question that would lead students to this blog is the title of this post, which I will repeat:
“Who is the father of Philippine Chemistry?”
A very good question and again, I was clueless as to what the answer was. Obviously it’s a name. The problem is, [...]

A$$loads of link loves

Okay, okay. This post will contain lots of link love, as the title is dead give away, to new blogs and bloggers, a few interesting finds in the net and some age-old posts from this blog as well.
First of all, an interesting article by Manolo Quezon III; Si Rizal at ang Pilosopiya ng Pagtitiis which [...]

Jesus walked on ice not water?

Jesus may not have actually walked on water: he may have skated on an isolated, hard to see piece of ice, according to a study on the weather and water conditions in northern Israel in Jesus’ time.

Doron Nof, professor of Oceanography at Florida State University, and colleagues report in the April issue of the Journal of Paleolimnology (the study of prehistoric lakes), that a rare combination of water and atmospheric conditions in northern Israel could have led to the formation of “springs ice” on the surface of the Sea of Galilee, now known as Lake Kinneret.
Nof’s team examined the dynamics of a small section of Lake Kinneret comprising about 10,000 square feet near the salty springs that empty into it. Currently, ice may form there only once every thousand years.

Rizal’s multiple tongues

Bilingualism, Tagalog-English adds more burden to those who are not speaking Tagalog, or atleast familiar with it.

This method of instruction neglects the fact that although we are in Luzon, Manila (where premiere Universities are located and is a Tagalog speaking area) there are still quite a number of students who are not familiar with Tagalog because they did not come from Luzon(Tagalog areas), they came from other regions of the country.

I just think that it is not good to be fluent in other foreign languages when we Filipinos ourselves cannot understand our neighbor from Bicol, our classmate from Samar or even our teacher from Cebu. I cannot understand how we are fascinated with the French, Chinese, Italian or Korean languages when we are uncomfortable, even disgusted with Waray, Tausug, Cebuano among others. Our jaws drop in awe whenever we hear our Korean or Japanese classmate speak in their native tongue while laugh our heads off whenever our Bisaya or Ilocano brethren utter even a single word from their dialect or carry over its accent when he speaks Tagalog or English in and outside of the classroom.

A Gay Womanizer

Now going back to my friend’s smart-ass idea on Rizal being gay, he did presented some reasons to back it up. He started by making this observation; “Sa lahat ng babaero, siya[Rizal] lang ang hindi nagkaroon ng maraming anak.” “Of all the womanizers, Rizal is the only one who has not produced a number of children.”

True, Rizal did not have many children save for the one that Josephine delievered too early into this world, only to die later as a tragic consequence of Pepe’s misdemeanors. This is despite the fact that he is well known for having many lovers and flames everywhere he went.
